"As the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive." Colossians 3:12-13

Jesus Christ came to this earth to teach us many things. The greatest gift He gave us was His atonement. He died, suffered, and rose again just for us. What a profound thing to think about. As we reflect on His life, many lessons come to mind — live the golden rule, have faith, communicate with God, love God and your neighbor. Perhaps one of the hardest lessons He taught is to forgive all those who do wrong unto you. Although we may understand the significance of forgiveness, pride, fear, and resentment can all get in the way of practicing that act. However, we can move forward by putting our trust in God and allowing Him to help us forgive.

In an article titled "Choosing to Forgive," the author provides 10 steps to help us on the journey of forgiveness. I will list them below.

  1. Understand what forgiveness is.

  2. Understand what forgiveness is not.

  3. Understand that failing to forgive magnifies the pain.

  4. Pray for humility.

  5. Express gratitude.

  6. Be patient.

  7. Leave the past behind.

  8. Write it down.

  9. Trust that God will be the perfect Judge.

  10. Cast your burden on the Lord.

The Lord wants to help us. In my experience, I have noticed that when I rely on Him and put my trust in Him, my burdens become lighter. Put your trust in Him and let Him mold you into the person He knows you can become.
