If you go read my first blog post, "Grammar Matters: The Impact on the Book of Mormon's Message", then you remember how my journey of writing began. As a child, I was encouraged to write a persuasive essay to my parents to convince them whenever I wanted something big, such as a puppy. For years I would write about why we should go on a trip to Disneyland or why I should be able to have an iPod. Although these essays did not always convince my parents, I learned valuable writing skills. This helped me have the aspiration to one day be an author. I would write and illustrate my books and read them aloud to my family members. Once I reached jr. high and high school, my writing slowed down. I would write my required papers for class but writing for myself became less and less frequent.
I then got back into journaling on my mission. This helped me express my feelings and thoughts on paper. Although I did not write every day, it was refreshing to begin writing again. To me, writing feels similar to soaring like a bird in the open sky. I felt free with myself. I was no longer holding my thoughts in a cage, they were free on the paper.
